Independent mold education • No universal federal airborne mold “safe level” exists

Is 10,000 mold spores/m³ high?

It is a large-looking number, but there is no federal rule saying “10,000 = unsafe.” The first question is: 10,000 of what, where, and compared with what?

Example A: indoor 10,000, outdoor 20,000

The total alone may reflect a high outdoor-spore day. You would still examine the species distribution and the building conditions.

Example B: indoor 10,000, outdoor 800

That contrast is more notable and deserves investigation, especially if one group dominates indoors or the room has water damage.

Example C: indoor 10,000 with visible mold

The visible mold and moisture problem are actionable regardless of whether an arbitrary numeric cutoff has been crossed.

Bottom line: 10,000 is not a federal pass/fail threshold. Use the outdoor control and building evidence.
